The Gypsy Circus
On March 2014 I attended a four-day workshop about visual storytelling in Paris and I tried to document the life and work of the Cirque Romanès, the only gypsy circus in Europe. For over 20 years the Romanès family have attracted spectators to a very unique show entirely run by the members of the family.
With the blessing of the head of the family I have spent two days with this small and vibrant community of poets, musicians, acrobats and dancers, who perform through the year in the city. The circus represents the legacy of the family, the arts are taught to the younger members and rehearsal is seen also like a moment to socialize and spend time together. Despite all the bias towards gipsies all around Europe, I found a community of talented people and a very close family which use the arts as a way to share love and creativity.
